30 for 30

hello old friends. I’ve set a new goal this year – and I need your help!

2017 marks the end of an era. my twenties have fleeted into the past, and the new decade of 30 is knocking at my door. And with all the ways there are to celebrate this coming of age, I thought to myself, “What better way to jump into my 30s than by running 30 miles?!”

Ok, truth – I didn’t actually think that. But what I did think is that this would be a real challenge. I’ve never run this far, and I don’t know if I’ll ever be bold or brave enough to go any more than this. (But I will cheer for you with all my might when you run your 40 for 40!) I wanted a goal to push my limits – to strengthen my mind of what I think 30 looks like – and, really, to start this decade on purpose. I also want to use this run as an excuse to spend the day with some of my favorite people! & that’s where you come in – – –

I want you to run with me! 15 – 10 – 5 – 1 – whatever miles you want to pledge toward my birthday extravaganza. My hope is to spend the whole day on the trail with people I know and love!

I’m putting this out there now so you have time to prepare. Training is training, whether it’s for 3 miles or 30, we all need it. I know for me, sometimes an event to train for is just what I need to get my butt out the door on these cold winter days. So consider this your personal challenge to lace up, get running, and meet me on the trail february 26th.

I also created an event on facebook (which I know everyone doesn’t have or use often) – but that’s what I’ll be updating with routes and times, to make it as easy as possible to meet up on a 30mile loop. My thought is to break it up into three start times – and three different trails around the city – throughout the day. & I’ve already volunteered Scott to be my designated run driver – if you decide to go out a couple miles with me then need a ride back to your vehicle. My idea, which is subject to change, will look something like this:

7a – Sunrise run on the MoPac trail (out & back to from 84th to 176th St) // 15miles

12p – Loop from the Cooper YMCA (for all my Y workout buddies! possibly broken into 2 loops – from the neighborhood trail behind Southpointe & then back to 27th & Hwy2 // 10miles

4pm – Sunset run around Holmes lake, starting and ending at the henn house // 5miles

that’s it! this isn’t about setting a record time or qualifying for anything, so please don’t feel like you have to be at a certain pace or fitness level to run – everyone is welcome!

I sure hope you’ll join me. it will be a long, lonely birthday party without you.

(& running with friends is better than running with balloons.)

*** in the chance that my birthday falls on a winter snowmagedon, the run will be postponed to the following sunday (march 5th)
